The Green Party of the United States urged President Obama to normalize relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and to lift the sanctions against the latter.

“The U.S.’s hostile policies regarding Venezuela is as irrational as the current posture against Iran. It’s motivated by U.S. business interests that wish to exploit Venezuelan oil resources and by Venezuela’s friendly relations with Cuba and Iran – in other words, by refusal to comply with U.S. economic and political domination. The Green Party upholds the right of nations throughout the world to serve the needs of their own people instead of corporate power and greed,” said Didier Ortiz of Florida, co-chair of the Latinx Caucus of the Green Party of the U.S. (http://www.gp.org/caucuses_affinity_groups#latinx).

The Green Party and the Libertarian Party will file our Anti-Trust Lawsuit Against Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) on Monday, September 29.

The CPD owned and operated by the Democratic & Republican parties and corporate sponsors, took over the presidential debates from the League of Women Voters in 1988 in order to keep the debates limited to D & R candidates.

The Green Party called for a halt in the flow of belligerent rhetoric against Iran and expressed hope that the deal negotiated by the U.S. and other nations in Vienna will prevent a military attack.

The Green Party opposes military action and sanctions against Iran and insists that the goal must be a peaceful and secure Middle East that’s free of all nuclear weapons, part of the effort for global nuclear disarmament.

“We’re seeing a maniacal push by Republicans and many Democrats towards a military confrontation with Iran based on a nuclear weapons threat that doesn’t exist,” said Tamar Yager, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States. “It’s a repeat of the kind of public deception and propaganda that the Bush-Cheney Administration used to justify an invasion of Iraq in 2003.”
